Top 10 Favorite Movies

**Originally posted on May 18, 2015**

It's Monday. Let's do a "list" post.

I have admitted this before, but I will say it again: I love lists. I have been called the ultimate list maker. I can’t help it. I think it’s a sickness. Now, that being said . . . It’s time for another list.

I also love movies. I can spend an entire day laying on the sofa and getting lost in movies. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen a certain film either. If I like it then I can watch it over and over and over. I thought I would share my top ten favorite movies with you here. (Note: These are my favorite stand alone movies. I did not include any series like Harry Potter on this list.)

  10. My Cousin Vinny  This movie always makes me laugh. From "utes", to "ticking like this", to grits and mud, this movie has it all. If you've never watched it, I suggest you remedy that as soon as you can. Joe Pesci as a big lawyer defending his cousin in backwoods Alabama will make you laugh.

  9. The Wizard of Oz  The Cowardly Lion has always been my favorite character. I can remember watching this when I was little and wishing for pair of ruby slippers. It's a classic for a reason, and now I watch it several times a year with my little girl. (Yes, we know the songs by heart.)

  8. Rio Bravo  I love westerns. I love John Wayne. Rio Bravo also has Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson in it. We get humor, songs, and plenty of shoot-em-up action with this one.

  7. The Searchers  This is also my favorite John Wayne movie. It's a powerful, gut wrenching film that showcases Wayne's acting abilities. It is a chilling, all-too-real look at human emotions and the lengths a person will go to when they think right is on their side.

  6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show  Oh, I am a huge fan of this one. Tim Curry can prance in heels better than I can. I can do the Time Warp. I know all the songs. Have you seen it? If not, you should.

  5. Gone with the Wind  Another classic. I fell in love with Rhett Butler somewhere along fifth grade, and I love him to this day. I can read the book over and over. The same goes for the movie. I love history, I love learning about the Civil War, and I love a good love story.

  4. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves  Oh, Robin Hood. I have a thing for Robin Hood movies. And this one is fantastic. Alan Rickman as the sheriff, Kevin Costner as Robin, Morgan Freeman as Azeem. It doesn't get much better.

  3. Robin Hood: Men in Tights    I told you I love Robin Hood movies. And this is also my favorite Mel Brooks movie. I know this movie by heart. If I need a pick-me-up, this is my go-to movie.

  2. Galaxy Quest  Alan Rickman again. He's a fantastic actor. Add in Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and great writing and you have comedic science fiction gold. This movie makes me laugh every time I watch it.

  1.  North and South    Okay, I may be cheating a little here since this is technically a TV miniseries. But I love, love, love this. We have the Civil War, Patrick Swayze, devious sisters and romantic subplots. It's perfect. My aunt recorded it onto VHS tapes when it aired on television and I would watch it over and over. I eventually wore those VHS tapes out. My husband found the series for me on DVD several years ago and now we watch those over and over.

And those are my top ten stand alone movies. In case you didn't notice, most of them are what I consider comedies. I love to laugh. And I'm always looking for new movies to watch. What are some of your favorite movies?
