The Debt and the Duke: A Review

This is the first book by a new author. If you like historical romance, I highly recommend it.

FROM AMAZON: When Eleanor Hastings’s father unexpectedly dies, he leaves his gambling club in her possession. The problem is, she can only inherit if she marries. Shocked by this turn of events, Eleanor decides to propose to the Duke of Winston, who she knows is greatly in need of funds.

After Eleanor sneaks into his house disguised as a maid, Charles is surprised. He’s even more taken aback when she offers him marriage to escape the debts he’s accrued by being overly indulgent with his mother and gaming addict brother.

Charles can’t seem to get Eleanor off his mind, but she’s convinced he’s an arrogant imbecile. Even as they find happiness against the odds, Charles’s family isn’t done demanding their due. Can their growing love survive the threat to everything they hold dear?

MY REVIEW (5 stars): This book is like a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed Eleanor and Charles: the way they interacted, the way they thought about each other, and the delightful situations they found themselves in. The pace was fast, the description wonderful, and the story as a whole was delightful.

I dropped everything else in order to finish this book. If you like historical romance with strong, able leading ladies and heroes that help instead of being overbearing, this is a book for you.
